Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute and Lockheed-Martin to Present Process Improvement in Multimodel Environments Workshop
Pittsburgh, PA, March 27, 2008 – All effective businesses face challenges to achieving and sustaining competitive advantage while complying with regulations. To meet these challenges, the highest performing organizations apply reference models, standards, and improvement technologies. Typically, this creates an environment where several improvement initiatives are concurrently implemented at different hierarchical levels and across organizational functions – leading different parts of an organization to champion the technologies that best address their problems
The Carnegie Mellon® Software Engineering Institute (SEI) believes there can be a more comprehensive way to achieve the integration of multiple technologies for process improvement within an organization. The SEI approach is to harmonize the process improvement models and will develop harmonization methods through the SEI-led project called Process Improvement in Multimodel Environments (PrIME).
In advance of the project, Lockheed-Martin and the SEI are co-sponsoring the workshop Hard Questions for Process Improvement in Multimodel Environments to share current research and methods for multimodel process improvement and to gauge the current state of the practice in commercial, government, and defense organizations. Lockheed-Martin is an example of a business that has seen benefits from successfully organizing multiple models for process improvement.

CMMI for Acquisition Supplement Training
This one-day course introduces acquisition managers and practitioners, appraisal team members, and process group (e.g., SEPG, EPG) members to CMMI® fundamental concepts related to acquisition. CMMI for Acquisition (CMMI-ACQ) is a CMMI model designed for use in managing a supply chain by those who acquire, procure, or otherwise select and purchase products and services for business purposes. This CMMI model focuses on
acquirer processes and contains best practices that address activities for initiating and managing the acquisition of products and services that meet the needs of the customer. Some types of acquisitions that would benefit from using CMMI-ACQ include government acquisition, supply chain management, procurement, and outsourcing.

We are delighted to also be partnering this year with VERIFY, a well-respected annual conference on testing topics, which will be joining as an integral part of the 2008 World Congress. Similarly, the International Conference on Software Quality, the ASQ Software Division's premier event, will be consolidated under the World Congress banner in September. Many other professional conferences have nominated their best presenters so we can offer the "best of the best" in Bethesda.

International Conference on Software Process Improvement (ICSPI) ::
Washington, DC, 20-24 October 2008
The International Institute for Software Process (IISP) sponsors the ICSPI.
Process improvement is not necessarily about CMM or CMMI, Six Sigma or ISO. Process improvement is about whatever can give high return in profitability and customer satisfaction with the resources your organization can afford. It is about whatever formal or informal methods that can best fit within your organization's culture. That is how ICSPI approaches software process improvement.
The fifth International Conference on Software Process Improvement (ICSPI) will be offering tutorials that will count towards the Certified Software Process Improvement Professional (CSPIP) certification. It will offer tutorials that will cover both the Core Knowledge Areas (CKAs) as well as the Application Knowledge Areas (AKAs).

Quality Today and Beyond -- Exploring Unchartered Dimensions
... During the Conference we will be looking proudly at the past, learning and implementing in the present and looking forward to the future.
The goal of an international conference is to enable each participant to see and to show, to present his newly initiated and developed methods and to become acquainted with those developed by other participants, to share fresh insights, and of course to meet colleagues from other countries.
The term "quality" carries within it so much more than what we were familiar with in the previous century. It is in fact the combination of all the properties that bring customer satisfaction, which in turn influences the bottom line of every business organization. In fact, we expect positive results not just in the commercial arena, but also in many other areas of life, which contribute to a better world and are measured in different ways.
The frequency of change in our lives is constantly increasing; with this increase caused by technological changes, disappearing barriers of time and place and the bridging of cultural gaps. This fact therefore demands that the quality professions cannot stagnate. In other words, these changes require us to consider quality in wider and maybe even different dimensions than what we have done in the past. We have been taught that "the rules of the game are changing" and "if you don't move forward, you will fall behind". Today, standing still means going backwards; and this includes the fields of quality.
The first part of the conference's slogan, Quality - Today & Beyond, indicates one of the dimensions we will be considering: the time dimension. Besides learning from the past and present, and preparing for the future, the conference will deal with questions such as: What is the role of the quality manager today? Do we still need quality managers/engineers? Will they be needed in the future? If so, what will be their function?
But there are other dimensions besides time in the quality conundrum, and I invite you to also take part in this second aspect of our program, Exploring Uncharted Dimensions.
We hope that you will join us in constructing the conference program and in building the world's next generation of quality.
